On Tuesday, March 30
th, Platte Valley Bank’s Prime 50 Club had their monthly Lunch & Learn at Dominic’s Casual Italian restaurant in Parkville, MO. Their speaker for the day was Mr. Chris Hershey, Director of the Platte County Board of Elections. Mr. Hershey spoke about voting in Platte County. He discussed voter registration, polls, acceptable forms of identification, changing addresses, volunteering as an election judge, and the new voting system.
One of Platte County’s new voting systems, called the “optical scan vote recording system,” uses an optical scanner to read marked paper ballots. One can also use their new “touch screen” unit to cast their vote. They even offer a touch screen recording system specially designed for those voters with visual impairments. Mr. Hershey said, these technological updates help save lots of paper. For absentee votes, you are still able to cast an “absentee ballot” by mail or in person if you will not be present on Election Day.
